This film is an adaptation of the wildlife
expert Dian Fossey's autobiography. It is based on the life and work of this
world-famous primatologist, who saved mountain gorillas from extinction in the
'70s and '80s. Dian Fossey, portrayed by Sigourney Weaver was a truly enigmatic
personality whose pioneering research work in Rwanda was instrumental towards
rebuilding the mountain gorilla population until her untimely and mysterious
murder. A tragic movie indeed, this movie will definitely put sensitive animal
lovers through an emotional wringer. The shots of the apes are everything we
could wish for and they are the real stars of the show with the incorporation
of real life footage of gorillas lending an aura of authenticity to the film.
Gorillas are not so different from
humans. They have their very own social groups and behavior and are
indeed very intelligent creatures. This movie takes a look at the vagaries and
complexities of gorillas and gives the viewer an idea of the magnificence of
the species and why it is imperative that they be preserved from extinction. Therefore,
this would be a great movie for not just ape lovers, but all the lovers of
nature as well as those with a curious mind. Though it is a bit of an old movie
it never gets too old to enjoy, and who knows, it may even change your life!
