Born Free

The academy award winning movie “Born free” is based on the book “Born free”  by Joy Adamson which is centered around a couple who adopts three lion cubs. From the very beginning, the movie captures the audience with its brilliant story telling supported by the wonderful performance of the cast, cinematography and music. “Born Free” portrays the dark side of domestication of wild animals and how animals loose an integral part of themselves as a result of this process.  The movie explores the problems the couple has to tackle as they try to subdue natural instincts of the lioness Joy, whom they adopted and how it leads to them being given an ultimatum of either sending her to a zoo or releasing her to the wild. While the movie successfully brings the issue of domestication to the attention of audience, it also shows that mankind has not completely lost their humanity and is capable of understanding the errors of their ways and that nature will forgive their misdeeds. “Born free” is a family movie which anyone can enjoy and it provides an insight to the universal issue of “Domestication” which is in need of a serious disclosure even today as thousands of wild animals are forced to go through the process.
